Jamaican Activist To Be Laid To Rest Today

CaribWorldNews, BRONX, NY, Fri. July 30, 2010: Noted Caribbean immigration activist and Jamaican national Hugh Beckford is set to be laid to rest today.
Beckford, founder of the Caribbean Family Services in the Bronx, passed away recently, reportedly after a battle with cancer. His funeral is scheduled for today, Friday, July 30, 2010 from 7 p.m. at St. Luke`s Episcopal Church, where he was a church leader and helped host many immigration forums.
Beckford was grandmaster in the Mechanics Lodge and a church leader at St. Luke`s Episcopal Church.
Beckford`s organization called itself a preventive social service agency, working to prevent the breakup of immigrant families, especially those from the Caribbean.
Beckford will long be remembered for his many years of advocacy on behalf of undocumented migrants and for his association with the Caribbean Immigrant Services` Irwine Clare and Winston Tucker on the hot button issue.
